about

Krav Maga Toronto is a full-time academy dedicated to teaching practical self defence. We are committed to ensuring that everyone who trains with us feels more confident in their ability to protect themselves and get home safe. Established in 2007 at our current location, we are Toronto’s first and only *Krav Maga Worldwide licensed training academy.

No Experience is necessary! It is also a training center for those who love hard work, challenges and ongoing personal development. From day one our owner and 2nd Degree Krav Maga black belt chief instructor has set a standard for the quality of teaching, self defence, self protection and personal development for himself, our team and our students that has set us apart. Self defence and self protection above all else require a mindset and discipline that we at KMT understand and implement daily. Our team is highly experienced in Krav Maga.

Our team has a combined experience of over 40 years of martial arts, Krav Maga and real life experience. The undeniable truths of violent encounters are the foundation of what Krav Maga was created for. With us, our members are led through classes with specific instructions and techniques to allow our students to learn through practical application, challenging drills/ exercises designed to help build our members mentally, emotionally and physically. It starts one of two ways.

First, through the physical aspect of our training. Second, through the mental aspect of our training. We integrate intensity in to our fun and supportive atmosphere.

Affiliation

Krav Maga Toronto Fight & Fitness Academy is an affiliate of Krav Maga Worldwide, the largest reality-based self-defense organization in the world and industry leader in Krav Maga-based self-defense, fitness, and combat. Our owner and chief instructor Robert Ferreira has been part of Krav Maga Worldwides elite roster of black belts and Civilian Law enforcement division instructor for 2 decades.

All of our instructors at Krav Maga Toronto have a minimum of 2 years apprenticing experience before receiving their KMW official Instructor certification. Our Krav Maga lineage come from founder Imi Lichtenfeld directly through Darren Levine and his top ranking instructors through to our chief instructor Robert Ferreira.

With loyal dedication, consistent discipline and an enormous passion for Krav Maga, its principals and values, We are very proud to be affiliated with Krav Maga Worldwide.

In 1981 the Krav Maga Association of Israel and the Israeli Ministry of Education held the first International Instructor’s Course at Wingate Institute for Physical Education. A generous philanthropist in New York, S. Daniel Abraham, sponsored a delegation of 23 members from various cities in the United States to attend the course. This course was supervised by Imi himself, who was then 71 years old and retired from his military career. The course was taught by Krav Maga lead instructors Shike Barak, Eyal Yanilov, and Ruevin Moimon. Darren Levine was chosen to be part of the delegation because of his martial arts and boxing background, as well as his involvement in the physical education program at the Heschel Day School near Los Angeles, California.

After returning home from Israel, Darren began teaching Krav Maga at Heschel Day School as an elective class. The class became so popular that it was incorporated into the physical education program. The journey and trajectory of KMW continued and evolved as we know it today. For more information about Krav Maga Worldwide, click here.

WHAT WE DO

Marathoners run to train for a race. Bodybuilders train to prepare for competition. When you train with Krav Maga Toronto, you train to be physically and emotionally ready for realistic worst case scenarios.

Krav Maga is not a martial art. It is a self defence system created by its founder Imi Lichtenfeld. It was developed to train the Israeli special forces and adapted for civilians. It is designed to use our most instinctive responses to maximize our defences while addressing the immediate danger.

This system takes the most practical techniques from Boxing, Karate, Judo, and many other martial arts to give you with an arsenal of skills to serve you in real-life scenarios. Krav Maga is the leading practical self-defense training used by Law Enforcement and Military all around the world.

Krav Maga Toronto provides training in realistic scenarios that safely emulate the physical and psychological stressors that are present in real world situations. Our experienced instructors will help you learn effective techniques based on your body’s natural instincts.

You will become the toughest, most empowered, most confident version of yourself. All while joining an open and supportive community just as eager to grow with you.

Robert Ferreira

Rob Ferreira began his martial arts journey at age nine, training in traditional Karate and Tae Kwon Do, where he earned his Black Belt and developed the discipline and precision that shaped his foundation. He later expanded into boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Judo, wrestling, and Jiu Jitsu, building a well-rounded understanding of striking, grappling, and live resistance training.

More than 26 years ago, he discovered Krav Maga. Drawn to its directness, efficiency, and real-world effectiveness, he committed himself fully to the system. He now holds a Second-Degree Black Belt under Krav Maga Worldwide and has trained with their Force Training Division alongside law enforcement and military personnel. His expertise extends beyond technique to include the psychology of violence and the mental conditioning required for real-world self-defence.

In 2007, recognizing the need for a dedicated Krav Maga facility, Rob founded Krav Maga Toronto on Dundas West in downtown Toronto — creating a focused training environment built specifically for practical self-defence.

Rob brings decades of instructional experience to his students. Known for his clarity, realism, and ability to connect, his approach emphasizes confidence, resilience, and practical skill — preparing students not just to train, but to protect themselves and go home safely.

For Rob, martial arts is a lifelong discipline grounded in responsibility, continuous growth, and service to others — earning him the nickname, “The Rob Father.”

Ryan Bowen

Ryan has been a fixture at Krav Maga Toronto since first stepping into its Dundas West location in 2008. After five years as a dedicated student, he entered a two-year instructor apprenticeship and earned his Phase A Instructor Certification at Krav Maga Worldwide Headquarters in Los Angeles in 2015. He has since returned stateside regularly to complete his Phase B, Phase C, Expert 1, and, most recently, Expert 2 (Brown Belt) Instructor Certifications.

Alongside teaching at KMT, Ryan has trained in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and calisthenics clubs throughout Toronto, while staying grounded in the real-world, scenario-based training that defines Krav Maga. He challenges students through rigorous, practical training that builds both skill and confidence—it’s not about who you are when you enter, but who you are when you leave.

Bianca Bozzelli

Bianca has been a dedicated member of Krav Maga Toronto since 2015. Her journey began as a passionate student committed to developing her skills and understanding of Krav Maga’s practical self-defense system. After years of consistent training, Bianca embarked on an apprenticeship to become an instructor, further deepening her skills and leadership within the community.

Following her return to training after the Covid hiatus, Bianca resumed her apprenticeship and earned her Phase A (Yellow Belt) Instructor Certification at Krav Maga Worldwide Headquarters in Los Angeles. She continues to exemplify personal growth and discipline through her ongoing training as a Brown Belt student, while actively teaching the Yellow Belt curriculum and advancing her instructor apprenticeship toward higher-level certifications.

Bianca remains an engaged and enthusiastic member of Krav Maga Toronto, regularly participating in workshops and training sessions to refine her skills, expand her teaching repertoire, and inspire students in their own self-defense journeys.

In her search for a practical and empowering self-defense system, Bianca discovered Krav Maga Toronto. After trialing several gyms, she found that none matched its welcoming community, high-caliber instruction, and intense, reality-based training. Krav Maga Toronto offered everything she was looking for in one place — making it the clear choice to join and the reason she continues to stay.

Monica

Monica first came to Krav Maga Toronto in 2017 after a Women’s Self-Defense seminar—and never looked back. She trained consistently for years before beginning her instructor apprenticeship in early 2025, where she continues to refine her skills under KMT’s rigorous training pathway.

She’s trained in Muay Thai and Kali, but it was Krav Maga’s real-world problem-solving and creative adaptability that kept her here. The system’s focus on staying sharp under pressure and finding solutions in tight situations is what drives her training.

In class, Monica pushes for technical precision, intensity, and a strong mindset. Her goal is simple: challenge students while helping them build real confidence. She wants people to leave feeling connected to the community and more capable of handling stressful situations—both on and off the mat.

For her, Krav Maga’s value goes beyond technique. It teaches self-trust, heart, and tenacity.

Monica chose KMT because the community here is unmatched. Rob and the instructors built a space where camaraderie, hard training, and humility are the norm—where ego drops, effort rises, and we push each other to push our limits past what we thought was possible

Michael

Michael was seeking a more practical and real-world self defense training system. He knew Krav Maga Toronto was the place after a trial class in 2017. After experiencing a shark bait drill that left him feeling re-energized and exhilarated. Through focused and consistent training, he started his instructor apprenticeship in late 2023.
He was introduced to Karate at a young age, later competed in freestyle wrestling, and trained in Muay Thai. Also having worked at a Martial Arts gym, he took every opportunity to experience other training systems. He has found his passion in learning Krav Maga’s method of highly effective techniques through unpredictable and aggressive attacks.
His philosophy is simple- always a student. He feels privileged learning from a highly skilled and dedicated team whos expertise continually challenge him. As an apprentice instructor, he believes guiding others is an honour, great responsibility, and another level of learning. His goal is to inspire students along thier Krav Maga journey by helping them build confidence, develop real-world skills, and discover thier potential in highly stressful situations.

Emeka Menakaya

Emeka began his journey into Krav Maga in 2015, and after his trial class, he has been an active member of the community since. As part of his personal development journey, he wanted to learn real life fight skills in a self-defense system that was practical, adaptable, applicable and precise. He found that in Krav Maga.

Through dedication, consistency and growth, he began his instructor apprenticeship program in 2022, and received his phase A (Level 1) certification  from Krav Maga Worldwide, Los Angeles, in 2024. He is also currently training towards his brown belt certification.

Emeka’s goal in each class, is to inspire students to dig deeper, believe in themselves, train hard, and cultivate a mindset that says “We are not victims”.

This is a mindset that was instilled in him under the tutelage and guidance of the leadership team at Krav Maga Toronto.

He feels privileged to be a part of the community, and believes the teachings of Krav Maga go beyond training, and can be applied to several aspects of life.

Emeka became aware about Krav Maga while listening to an audiobook about personal development. The description by the author really spiked his interest. In the past, he had taken a few boxing, Tae Kwon Do and Muay Thai classes, but none of them seemed to address the real life practicalities and intricacies of fighting. After his first ever Krav Maga trial class at KMT, commemorated with his interaction with the staff, he was hooked and felt right at home.
